Faction War
Overview
Faction War is a multi-faction sandbox brawl mode. You choose a faction to join, and all Bosses on the field belong to different factions. Same-faction units do not harm each other, while different factions fight each other. There are no fixed waves and no clear conditions — this is the most free and chaotic mode in BossRush.
Entry Requirements
- Naked: Cannot wear any equipment
- Carry a Faction Banner (purchased from the base merchant)
- The Faction Banner is consumed upon entry
Faction Selection
Your faction is determined by which Faction Banner you carry:
- Random Banner: Join a randomly assigned faction / Randomly join one of 5 NPC factions
- Scav Banner: Join the Scav faction
- USEC Banner: Join the USEC faction
- BEAR Banner: Join the BEAR faction / Since the base game has no BEAR presets, BEAR faction units receive a 150% stat boost (×2.5) as compensation
- Lab Banner: Join the Lab faction
- Wolf Banner: Join the Wolf faction / Prioritizes spawning all unique Wolf Bosses; remaining spawn points produce minions promoted to Boss tier
- Lone Wolf Banner: Join the Lone Wolf faction / Do not join any faction, hostile to all Bosses
Core Mechanics
Faction Friendly Fire Rules
- Same-faction units cannot damage each other
- Different factions are automatically hostile
- Lone Wolf players are hostile to all factions, with no allies
Death Empowerment
When a member of a faction dies, all surviving members of that faction receive stat boosts:
- Per 1 member death: Survivors gain +5% health, firearm damage, melee damage
- Effects stack; the more a faction loses, the stronger the remaining members become
- Health increase also restores an equal amount of HP
Starting Gear
- Same random starting gear as From Scratch
- Snow maps additionally issue cold-weather gear (helmet + armor)
- Lone Wolf players receive extra supply items
Boss Spawning
- All Bosses spawn at once when the mode starts
- Each faction's spawn points are assigned by distance; your faction gets the closest spawn points
- Dragon Descendant appears at most once per session
- Skyburner Dragon Lord does not appear in Faction War
Arena NPCs
All three NPCs appear in Faction War mode:
- Awen (Courier): Provides item storage and retrieval services
- Dingdang (Goblin Smith): Provides Reforge and shop services
- Yuori (Nurse): Provides healing services
Mystery Merchant
When the mode starts, a Mystery Merchant appears in front of you, offering 13 categorized shops:
- Firearms: All firearms / Price multiplier ×10
- Melee: Melee weapons / Price multiplier ×10
- Attachments: Weapon attachments / Price multiplier ×10
- Ammo: All ammo (purchase auto-refills) / Price multiplier ×1 (original price)
- Helmets: All helmets / Price multiplier ×10
- Armor: All armor / Price multiplier ×10
- Backpacks: All backpacks / Price multiplier ×10
- Totems: All totems / Price multiplier ×10
- Masks: All masks / Price multiplier ×10
- Medical: Medical items and injectors / Price multiplier ×10
- Food: Food items / Price multiplier ×10
- Decoys: Decoy items / Price multiplier ×10
- Other: Tactical consumables, etc. / Price multiplier ×1
The merchant is on your faction and has extremely high HP, making them virtually unkillable.
Summon Coalball
The main interaction option with the Mystery Merchant allows you to summon a "Coalball" — a pet NPC combat companion that joins your faction. Coalball follows you and participates in combat, helping you fight Bosses from hostile factions.
Tactical Consumables
Faction War provides 4 exclusive consumables (purchasable from the Mystery Merchant's "Other" shop):
- Taunt Smoke Bomb: Spawns random-faction Bosses at the 10 nearest spawn points
- Chaos Detonator: Spawns random-faction Bosses at all spawn points across the map
- Hunter's Whistle: Forces all hostile Bosses within 50 meters to chase you
- Blood Hunt Beacon: Forces all hostile Bosses across the entire map to chase you
Every 10 Boss kills, the system automatically grants 1 Taunt Smoke Bomb.
End Condition
Faction War has no explicit win/lose condition. It is an open-ended sandbox mode. Leaving the arena scene ends the session.
Strategy Tips
- Consider the Boss pool strength distribution when choosing a faction; Boss power varies significantly between factions
- Lone Wolf mode is the most hardcore choice — you have no allies, and all Bosses are enemies
- Make good use of Taunt Smoke Bombs and Chaos Detonators to create chaos and let Bosses from different factions wear each other down
- The death empowerment mechanic means the longer the fight goes on, the stronger surviving Bosses become
