Arena Backyard

From BossRush Wiki

What is it

  • The Backyard is what you do between runs: grow a little food, show off some trophies, put on a new battle track.
  • It is not a new map. "Backyard" is just a name — all three facilities sit in the base you already know.
  • Each one does a single thing:
    • Garden — turn Boss-dropped seeds into raid meals.
    • Trophy Showcase — record the good gear you've earned for a permanent health bonus.
    • Jukebox — a few mod battle tracks added to the base's playlist.
  • The Backyard is on by default and there is no master switch to flip. What decides how much of it you can use is your progress through the Duck King Campaign.

How to unlock it

The three facilities follow the first three chapters of the Duck King Campaign. Each opens the moment you deliver that chapter's contract — no need to leave and re-enter the base.

  • Deliver Chapter 1 Echoes of the RingGarden
  • Deliver Chapter 2 Vow of the Empty-HandedTrophy Showcase
  • Deliver Chapter 3 Planting the BannerJukebox

Don't want to follow the story? ModConfig has Arena Backyard: Skip Campaign Unlocks (Debug), off by default — turn it on and all three open immediately.

Garden

  • Nothing to build. It uses the planting plots your base already has.
  • Once the Garden is unlocked, the three mod Bosses drop an extra seed into their loot crate, roughly 25% each. It's a bonus on top — it never takes the place of the Dragon set pieces or the Dragon Lord's exclusive drops.
  • With a seed in hand, open the base's normal planting screen and the mod seeds are simply there in the list alongside the vanilla crops.
  • A plant takes about 20 real-time minutes to ripen and yields 2 per harvest.
  • Same rule as vanilla crops: it only grows while watered. Forget to water and progress stops.

Seeds and the food you harvest can't be recorded in the Showcase — that cabinet only takes trophies.

Trophy Showcase

  • Build a Trophy Showcase from the base's construction menu: 800 money, 2×1 footprint, one only.
  • Walk up and interact with it to open the panel: eight slots, your current bonus, and two record buttons.

The key point: recording does not take your gear away.

  • Just hold the trophy in your hands or wear it, press the button, and the cabinet remembers it.
  • The item stays yours — keep using it, sell it, whatever. The bonus comes from the fact that you actually earned it, so there's never a "keep the gear or take the stat" trade-off.

How the bonus works

  • Only gear of quality 5 or above is worth recording.
  • Each recorded piece gives max health by quality: +0.5% for every level above quality 4. Quality 5 is +0.5%, quality 8 is +2%.
  • Filling all eight slots adds another +5%.
  • Eight quality-8 pieces come to roughly +21% max health — that's the ceiling.
  • The bonus is always on: it counts in the base and in a run, whatever you're carrying.

Trophy ShowcaseTrophy Showcase

Jukebox

  • Once unlocked, mod battle tracks are appended to the base jukebox's playlist, sitting alongside the vanilla songs for you to pick from.
  • Two tracks so far, listed under their original titles: 龙裔挽歌 (Dragon Descendant's Elegy) and 幽影回廊 (Umbral Corridor).
  • Mod tracks always go after the vanilla ones, so nothing you already had shifts position in the list.

How raid meals work

Raid meals are the Backyard's signature mechanic, and there are only three rules:

  • Eat it in the base. You can't eat one mid-run — the eat option is unavailable out there, so you can't waste one by accident.
  • It applies to your next run. Nothing happens when you eat it; the effect goes on at the start of the next run you leave the base for.
  • It lasts one run. When that run ends the effect is gone, whether you extracted or died.

Two more that catch people out:

  • Only one meal can be pending at a time. Eating two doesn't stack — the second one replaces the first, and the first has already been consumed. Pick one and eat only that.
  • You can safely quit after eating. The record is saved, so the meal still counts when you come back tomorrow and head out.

Seeds and food

Seeds (Boss drops, roughly 25% each)

  • Dragon Seed — from the Dragon Descendant, grows Dragonbreath Fruit
  • Ember Seed — from the Skyburner Dragon Lord, grows Emberheart Chili
  • Phantom Spore — from the Phantom Witch, grows Umbral Mushroom

Raid meals (harvested from the Garden, 2 per harvest)

  • Dragonbreath Fruit+10% gun and melee damage on your next run
  • Emberheart Chili+8% move speed and +10% reload speed on your next run
  • Umbral Mushroom-10% physical damage taken on your next run

Questions you might have

  • Is the Backyard a new map? No. All three facilities are in the base; "Backyard" is just a name.
  • Will the Showcase take my gear? No. It only notes that you've owned that kind of trophy — the item never leaves your hands.
  • Can I record the same item twice? No. One kind of trophy takes one slot; a repeat just tells you it's already recorded.
  • Can I undo a record I regret? No, there's no take-back button. But recording is pure upside with no cost, so a "wrong" record loses you nothing except a slot.
  • What if the Showcase fills up? Eight slots is the cap, and filling it is exactly what earns the extra +5%.
  • Can I eat a raid meal during a run? No, only in the base.
  • Does a meal expire if I don't go out? No. The record sits there until you actually start a run.
  • Can I eat two different meals at once? No, only the last one you ate is kept.
  • Are Boss drops the only way to get seeds? Yes. Each of the three mod Bosses drops its own, and no shop sells them.
  • Can I turn the whole Backyard off? There's no such switch — it's default content. Just don't use it: skip the Showcase, skip the planting, and it stays out of your way.
