Duck King Codex

From BossRush Wiki

What is it

A Boss collection book that keeps its own ledger. Every Boss you personally kill turns its entry from a black silhouette into a full-color portrait.

It changes no combat rule. What it changes is why you go after a particular Boss - for that one square that still isn't lit.

How to open it

  • Buy a Duck King Codex from the base shop for 4000. The shop only ever stocks 1.
  • Use it from your inventory (right-click) to open the panel. Using it does not consume it - buy once and you're set for good.
  • The book is the only way in. The codex panel has no hotkey and no second entry point in any other screen - open your inventory when you want to browse it.

It records with or without the book. The book is how you look at the ledger, not what starts it - every Boss you've killed since installing the Mod is already logged. Buy the book whenever you feel like it and you'll open it to a pile of entries already lit. There's no need to buy it "before you start collecting", and nothing is lost by buying it late.

4000 for a permanent collection book is the best-value purchase in the Mod - the very first entry's milestone alone pays out 50,000.

What's in the panel

  • A progress bar at the top with milestone marks, so you can see how many kills separate you from the next payout.
  • Below it, a 4-column card grid. Each card shows the portrait, name, total kills, fastest kill and first-seen date.
  • Click any card to enlarge the portrait. Locked entries are darkened silhouettes - the outline is there, the content is not.

What it records

Each entry tracks four things:

  • Total kills - how many times you've put it down.
  • First seen - the date of your first kill.
  • First-kill mode - which mode that first one happened in (Standard Arena / Infinite Hell / From Scratch / Faction War / Blood Hunt / Fate Echo / Zombie Apocalypse / vanilla raid).
  • Fastest kill - timed from your first hit on it until it goes down. Hiding to heal mid-fight inflates this number.

Which Bosses appear

  • Every Boss in the base game's Boss pool.
  • The Mod's three custom Bosses: Dragon Descendant, Skyburner Dragon Lord, Phantom Witch.
  • Zombie Mode's five Bosses (Titan, Hunter, Splitter, Shielder, Corruptor) each get a square too.

Almost every mode counts: Standard BossRush, Infinite Hell, From Scratch, Faction War, Blood Hunt, Fate Echo, Zombie Apocalypse - even Bosses you happen to kill on vanilla raid maps.

The one exception is the Black Market Duck Cup: you never step onto the field there, so the Bosses are killed by your contracted fighters, not by you. Those kills don't enter the codex and don't update fastest-kill times.

Milestone rewards

Hitting certain counts unlocks achievements and pays out through the achievement system you already know:

  • Unlock your 1st entry → $50,000
  • Unlock 10$150,000
  • Unlock 20$400,000
  • Complete the codex$1,000,000
  • Plus a novelty achievement, "Inside Ten Seconds": kill any Boss within 10 seconds$200,000

That's 1.8 million across the five. For a 4000 book, the math works out.

Farm "Inside Ten Seconds" on the thinnest-health Boss you can find. The timer starts on your first hit, so line up your burst and a full magazine before you make contact.

Common questions

  • Do kills someone else landed count? No. Only kills where you dealt the lethal damage. Companions, pets, mercenaries and environmental damage don't count.
  • Do my PetNest cub's kills count? No, companions are explicitly excluded. Do it yourself.
  • Is there a point in killing the same Boss again? Yes. Total kills keeps climbing and you might beat your fastest time, but the square only needs lighting once.
  • What happens across save slots? The codex follows the save slot, so each save collects separately. That's what keeps milestone payouts from being free money on a fresh save.
  • I disabled a Boss in the Boss Filter - do I lose its record? No. Collected entries stay in the codex forever, displayed under the name you recorded them with. The codex tracks what you have killed, not what you can still find.
  • How many entries is "complete"? It depends on your current Boss pool, and the official Boss count shifts with game versions. The denominator on the progress bar is the live answer.
  • Do kills from before I bought the book count? Yes. The ledger runs regardless; the book just lets you read it.

Do I need to enable it?

No. The codex is on by default and logging from the moment you install. There is nothing to switch on.
