Only found on two of Sky Island's island lords, the Hanging-Root Huntmaster and Grain Sickle: they wear their full set every raid, and when they fall they keep just one piece by weight, which takes one slot in the loot box; the rest of the box is whatever they were carrying.

What Is It?

The two sets worn by the Hanging-Root Huntmaster, island lord of the Hanging Root Wood, and Grain Sickle, island lord of the Green Terraces: the Rootweave Mask, Vinewoven Cuirass and Hanging-Root Quiver are the rootweave hunting gear and come from the Huntmaster; the Greenear Straw Hat, Straw Raincoat and Grain Sack are the straw-cloak farm gear and come from Grain Sickle. Worn, they give the game's usual head armour / body armour / pack capacity; on the isles each set also has a use: any two rootweave pieces double the chance of an island good turning up in scavenging crates, and any two straw-cloak pieces add one sheaf to every cut of greenear. The Starforge Foreman's set is under "Starworks Gear", and the single pieces the chiefs wear are under "Island Chief Gear".

The Six Pieces

  • Rootweave Mask (face mask): quality 5, Head Armor +1, durability 40, item ID 500090
  • Vinewoven Cuirass (body armor): quality 5, Body Armor +3, durability 100, item ID 500091
  • Hanging-Root Quiver (backpack): quality 5, pack capacity +6, item ID 500092
  • Greenear Straw Hat (helmet): quality 5, Head Armor +2, durability 60, item ID 500094
  • Straw Raincoat (body armor): quality 5, Body Armor +3, durability 90, item ID 500095
  • Grain Sack (backpack): quality 5, pack capacity +7, item ID 500096
  • Repairable: the four pieces with durability can be fixed at the workbench (the two packs have no durability)
  • On death: they are not bound; fall during a raid and they stay behind with the rest of your gear

How to Get It

  • Hanging-Root Huntmaster (island lord, Hanging Root Wood beacon guards): there every raid. It always drops one piece: Rootweave Mask 35%, Vinewoven Cuirass 35%, Hanging-Root Quiver 30%, so it takes a few raids to complete the set.
  • Grain Sickle (island lord, the group between the waterwheel channel and the barn on the Green Terraces): there every raid. It always drops one piece: Greenear Straw Hat 35%, Straw Raincoat 35%, Grain Sack 30%.
  • The piece that drops comes at full durability; the pieces it did not roll never reach the box.
  • Never in any random pool (island crates, Wish Fountain, daily sign-in, boss loot crates). These two are the only source.

Uses on the Isles

Rootweave pair (any two of the Rootweave Mask / Vinewoven Cuirass / Hanging-Root Quiver worn at once):

  • Every scavenging crate on the isles already has one chance to hold an extra island good (Homecoming Bento, Starmoss Salve, Wind-Vane Compass); wearing the pair doubles that chance. The crate's usual item count and quality do not change.
  • Crates are filled as you approach, so what counts is what you are wearing at that moment.

Straw-cloak pair (any two of the Greenear Straw Hat / Straw Raincoat / Grain Sack worn at once):

  • Each greenear tuft you gather yields 1 more Greenear Sheaf; each tuft can still be gathered only once per raid.

Tips

Hanging-Root Huntmaster:

  • Root snare: once you are within 20 m, it plants two root stakes between you and it and strings a tripwire about 8 m long between them. The wire starts slack, pulls taut about 0.8 seconds later and vanishes on its own after 12 seconds; once it is taut, step across it or brush against it and you are tripped (a small hit and 45% slower for 2.5 seconds), and the wire snaps.
  • Break either stake (30 health) and the wire snaps.
  • Root-hollow ambush: at 75% / 45% health a ring (2.5 m radius) lights over the root hollow nearest you, and about 1 second later it bursts out there in a blast. Step away as soon as a hollow glows. After bursting out it reels for 1.5 seconds; that is your window.
  • Breaking its gear cuts its attacks: once the Rootweave Mask is crit through, a hollow glows for 2 seconds before it bursts out; once the Vinewoven Cuirass is at zero durability, the tripwire's slow is halved.

Grain Sickle:

  • Opening the sluices: at 80% / 50% / 25% health it floods a patch of mud (3.5 m radius) under you and one on each side (5.5 m out). The mud takes about 1.2 seconds to spread and does not slow you before then; after that it stays for 12 seconds, and you walk and run 40% slower while standing in it.
  • The first time it opens a sluice it shouts toward the barn and calls over whatever hands from the barn group are still standing. Clear the barn side first and nobody comes.
  • Sickle sweep: get within 3 m and a ring lights at its feet; about 0.9 seconds later it sweeps (2.2 m radius), then waits 4 seconds. Keep your distance and back off when the ring lights.
  • Breaking its gear cuts its attacks: once the Greenear Straw Hat is shot through, a sluice floods only one patch; once the Straw Raincoat is at zero durability, the sweep's warning slows to 1.6 seconds.

Both show a boss health bar and name and come back every raid even after you beat them; first kills are recorded in the archipelago journal under "About the isles → This run · journey progress". With Rainhush Earmuffs on, their warning rings stay lit longer (see "Island Chief Gear").
